About Austin Hwang
What was my history in gaming?
One of the first PCs I've used was a desktop with Windows XP, and I used to play "educational games" on it. However, the first time I became interested in gaming was when my parents bought me an original Xbox (the black one) when I was about 4 or 5 years old. Some of the games I used to play on the console included Blinx 2: Masters of Time and Space, Halo and Project Gotham Racing 2. Many years later, when I was in Secondary One, my father bought a laptop that was meant to be a family computer. It was also around this time when I heard of a game called Team Fortress 2. After playing it for a while, I found it to be very fun and started playing it everyday (in moderation). This eventually made me move to PC gaming and now, I play well-known games like League of Legends, Overwatch, Hearthstone, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Fortnite.
Why am I interested in games programming?
Firstly, I am interested in Games Programming because I like programming. Despite knowing that it may be difficult and challenging, I feel that the relief of seeing a game you made work can overcome whatever difficulty that may be faced when programming the game.
Secondly, when I play video games, I will sometimes wonder how the code for a certain section is programmed, and I want to learn how to do that. Also, since I enjoy playing games, I feel that I will have the motivation to programme games.

Games I Play(ed)
Tekken 7
The first fighting game I properly played, and I find it fun because of its difficulty and mechanics involved (e.g. 3D movement vs typical 2D fighting games)
|
Monster Hunter: World
An ARPG that involves hunting monsters with lots of health. I find this game fun because of the wide variety of builds and playstyles possible.
|
Pummel Party
A game that is similar to Mario Party. A fun game to play with many friends.
|
Fortnite
I started playing Fortnite before it was 'mainstream', and it had unique game mechanics for a Battle Royale shooter.
|
osu!
Osu! is one of the rhythm games I really enjoy as there is a wide selection of songs available, and it's the kind of game where you may be bad at first and improve over time. Also, since it does not have high system requirements, I can play it between lectures in school.
|
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds
This game introduced me to the Battle Royale genre, and I enjoy playing it because of its realism and challenge. You can also sell in-game items for money in your Steam Wallet.
|
Overwatch
One of my favourite FPS games I've played. (Fun fact: I bought this game on my birthday right after 'O'-Levels ended)
|
Path of Exile
The first ARPG I've played, and I find it fun due to the wide range of builds available, but gets repetitive after a long time.
|
League of Legends
This was my first MOBA (started playing in Secondary 3), and despite the community, it is still fun.
|
Warframe
I find it different from conventional shooters since it has some "MMO elements" to it, and you will have to 'farm' a lot for in-game items.
|
Hearthstone
Not the first TCG-type game I've played, but I really enjoy it because of the many possible decks, and you don't have to spend a single dollar on this F2P game. Mainly a game I play when I'm outside (e.g. MRT, bus, school).
|
Team Fortress 2
Even though I do not play it as much, it is somewhat special since it is the game that introduced me to PC gaming. (Currently have more than 1400 hours played)
