Workshop 4 - Board GamesThe board games I selected to play with my friends are King of Tokyo and Love Letter. King of Tokyo is a board game which involves you fighting other monsters or robots to be the King of Tokyo. To win this game, players need to get 20 points or be the last one standing. At the start of each turn, players can roll dice to potentially win points, gain health, energy or get the ability to deal damage. Players can also choose to reroll some of the dice for up to 2 times while keeping the rest to try to get a better combination of dice. However, when a player is in the 'Tokyo' spot, they cannot heal themselves, but can damage all other players. Energy gained can be used to obtain a card which can affect the gameplay. I really enjoyed playing this game with my friends because its mechanics are relatively simple yet fun. Even though there is some luck involved because of the use of dice, some strategy and decision-making is also needed to decide which dice to keep and reroll. Love Letter is a game which involves risk, deduction and luck. The main story of Love Letter is about you relying on others to get your love letter to the princess. At the start of each turn, players have to draw and play a card, and a card's effect will be activated when played. You win the round when you are the only player left or when the number of your card is the largest when there are no cards left. A player can only win the game after winning 3 such rounds. I enjoyed playing this game with my friends because it requires some thinking/strategy for a relatively simple game. Since every player is given a card that shows the number of each type of card, players can use that to think of the possibility of you having a certain card. Also, gameplay does not take a large amount of time, so multiple rounds can be played.
