Workshop 3A - Game GenresI personally tend to enjoy shooters and Action RPG (ARPG) games. Shooters are action games where players' speed and reaction times are tested. Players will often use weapons like guns to shoot at other players (PvP) or computer-generated enemies (PvE). Some examples of shooters include Overwatch and Team Fortress 2 (both are PvP). I enjoy playing shooters because it is part of my personality to prefer games which have action and are relatively fast-paced. Shooters are very entertaining because you will often require quick reaction speeds and fast decision-making to react in a situation (e.g. when you are fighting against another player in a 1v1 situation). When I first start out a shooter (like a class-based shooter), I will not be very good at first. Since I enjoy this genre of games, I will be encouraged to play more and learn the mechanics of each character to be better at the game. I have recently been playing battle royale games like PUBG and Fortnite, and I am starting to enjoy and appreciate the battle royale genre. For example, I enjoy playing Fortnite because of its unique mechanics which involves building while fighting against other players. At first, it was challenging to try to build structures properly while protecting myself, but after a while, I started to get the hang of the gameplay. ARPGs are role-playing games that are real-time instead of being turn-based. The mechanics of ARPGs are also similar to hack and slash games. Some examples of APRGs are the Diablo franchise and Path of Exile. I enjoy playing ARPGs because they contain a mix of RPG and action elements. I like the story and progression of RPGs, but I do not prefer the turn-based combat system most RPGs have. Also, I like to get good equipment to complete more difficult sections of the game, so ARPGs really interest me. I tend to not enjoy Tower Defense games. Tower Defense games are strategy games where players will have to fight waves of enemies by building towers that attack them along their path. One example of a Tower Defense game is Kingdom Rush.
I do not particularly enjoy this genre of games because I am not a very strategic person, and I would rather move around and defeat the enemies myself. I also find it hard to decide which 'tower' is worth upgrading first, and I mostly make a poor decision in this aspect. For most of the tower games I played, the first few waves of enemies were reasonably easy to defeat. However, at later waves, I will find it too difficult to defeat them.
